Royksopp’s “(Nothing Yet) Ash”: Stream New Song

Back in 2014, Smoke mushrooms Office has partnered that their fifth studio album, The Inevitable End, would have been their end, but the Norwegian electronic duo still kept their promise to continue airing music without limitation in the LP format. Over the weekend, Röyksopp is back with a new track “(Nothing But) Ashes…,” along with an awesome music video.

“(Nothing But) Ashes …” is a wordless song that combines droning, ambient synths with a gentle piano melody. Its music video focuses on a character wearing a helmet as if Daft Punk had a steampunk phase. This unknown character then embarks on a journey into a heavy forest, where they find a strange object resembling a knife.

It’s hard to make heads or tails in any of the story lines here, but considering the video’s subtitle “Profound Mysteries,” it could be a much bigger project – you can also hear snippets in other bags -ong song at Röyksopp’s website now then. In the meantime, see “(Nothing) But Ash …” below.

Last summer, Röyksopp announced that they would be selling physical copies of Lost Tape, a compilation of B-sides and other unreleased material recorded in the course of their careers. Back in January 2021, The Knife’s Olof Dreijer remixed “Monument,” Röyksopp’s collaboration with Robyn on their 2014 joint EP Do It Again.
