According to The deadline, Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink has signed on for the lead role in Searchlight Pictures’ post-apocalyptic rock opera film titled O’Dessa. This marks Sink’s latest film project after receiving praise for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s A24 drama The Whale.
O’Dessa written and directed by Geremy Jasper (Patti Cake$). It will also feature original songs produced by Jasper and Jason Binnick. Production is expected to begin this May in Croatia.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Geremy again,” Searchlight presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said in a statement. “With the O’dessahe brings a unique and visceral energy to a new cinematic landscape.
The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic future and centers around a farm girl, as she embarks on an “epic quest to recover a cherished family heirloom. Her journey leads her to in a strange and dangerous city where he meets his one true love – but to save his soul, he must put the power of fate and song to the ultimate test.
O’Dessa Michael Gottwald, Noah Stahl, and Rodrigo Teixeira will produce, with Taylor Friedman and Cornelia Burleigh directing the project for Searchlight. The executive producers are Jonathan Montepare, Dan Janvey, and Lourenço Sant’Anna.
