Before tickets go on sale for BEYONCEof “The Renaissance World Tour,” the Senate Judiciary Committee now warns Ticketmaster not to do the same errors they did about Taylor Swift “The Eras Tour” earlier this year.
“We’re watching, @Ticketmaster,” Senator Dick Durbin tweeted from the committee’s official Twitter account on Friday, citing a post from CNN about the anticipation of Queen Bey’s upcoming ticket sales after the pre-sale disaster “Eras Tour” that left though. Swift himself “Actually [pissed] off.”
That disaster prompted Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) to create a January 24. listen when Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation monopolize the ticketing industry. Amid some uncomfortable references to Swift lyrics, the Senators criticized Ticketmaster for canceling the general sale of the pop star’s tour in November after unprecedented demand during the pre-sale period. Fans who tried to buy tickets were met with slow service, frustrating error messages, and long delays.
It’s unlikely that the January hearing alone will prompt Ticketmaster to make any changes, but some Swift fans will too sued the company in the pre-sale for “The Eras Tour,” and Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti also announced that he investigating possible antitrust violations.
