Shakira Reflects on “Rough Year” After Gerard Piqué Split


Shakira took a personal struggle and poured it into a song that fans want to hear anytime, anywhere.

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, recently reflected on him breakup from Gerard Pique after 11 years together, and how their split led to his record-breaking collaboration with Shaving “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.”

“I had a tough year after my breakup, and writing this song was really important to me,” she shared in a March 10 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It’s a healthy way to channel my emotions.”

The track, with lyrics that seem to foreshadow Gerard and his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti, broke a whopping 14 Guinness World Records, as discussed during his appearance on the talk show. The 46-year-old woman shared that the success of the song makes her feel as if her fanbase includes a “sister” of women “who feel what I feel, who have to suffer a lot of nonsense in a way that I need it.”
