Last night (July 1), Ms. Lauryn Hill reunited with Wyclef Jean at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. Thirty minutes into his performance, Hill made a surprise appearance and the two performed four Refugees songs with: “Kill Me Slowly“”How many Mics“”Fu-Gee-La“and”Ready or Not”Notes Stereogum. Hill met again with the Fugees in September and the three played one good concert in New York, but the rest of their planned reunion tour in the end canceled because of COVID-19. Rescheduled dates were not announced.

Back in April, Hill issued a statement in support of the California bill FAIR Act, which would repeal an amendment to California’s “Seven-Year Statute” that makes it so that record labels can sue artists for damages if they leave after seven years but before fulfilling the required number of albums stipulated in their contract. “No institution should allow the opportunity to control the market by controlling the output of a creative creature for some ridiculous, indefinite period of time,” he wrote.
