However, Simu is not the only celebrity to speak, it seems Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Crystal Kung Minkoff took to Instagram to express his grief.

“I was planning to share a Happy New Year message today, but instead I woke up to news from Monterey Park, my second home,” He wrote on Jan. 22 with a photo detailing news reporting on the shooting. “A community of almost 70% Asian; it was always considered a safe haven for my grandparents and thousands of Chinese immigrants looking for a place to belong. We grieve, ache, and process with you everyone.”

He concluded, “We hold space for all those affected by this tragic loss of life, near and far. When our community hurts, we all hurt.”

Daniel Dae Kim also contemplated shooting. “On a traditional day of celebration, today is also marked by tragedy,” he said Instagram. “We always talk about the term ‘community.’ As important as it is to be together in times of celebration, perhaps it’s even more important to be there for each other in times of loss.”

Monterey Park Mayor Henry Lo told NBC News that the gunman may have targeted his ex-wife in the dance hall. “My understanding is that he may have come because his ex-wife was partying, celebrating the Lunar New Year,” he said, “and it seems there is a history of domestic violence, which is not good.”

A vigil is planned for Tuesday, January 24 in the city.
