Production of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things delayed due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. Creators, directors, and executive producers Matt and Ross Duffer announced the news on Twitter yesterday (May 6). “Writing doesn’t stop when filming starts,” the Duffer Brothers wrote in their statement. “While we are excited to begin production with our amazing cast and crew, this strike will not be possible. We hope that a fair agreement can be reached soon so that we can all get back to work. Until then of that—again and again. #wgastrong.”
Additionally, Netflix sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that production will be put on hold until a later time. Stranger Things was one of several programs affected by the WGA strike; a handful of Saturday Night Live Episodes were recently discontinued, including shows that were set to feature guests such as music Lil Uzi Vert, Foo Fighters, and Labrinth.
Many late night talk shows have also stopped airing new episodes amid the strike, such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Reruns of those movies will be aired instead.
When reached by Pitchfork, Netflix representatives had no comment.
