One of the most anticipated releases in hip-hop history is about to arrive, as it were Isaias Rashad finally announced his new album The House is on fire. It’s set for a June release, and Zay is offering an early taste with the new single “Lay Wit Ya” featuring Duke Deuce.
Rashad’s legend owes little to his 2014 debut Demo of Cilvia and many of his 2016 magnum opus The Waiting of the Day. Five years have passed as he is ready to peak at superstardom, but instead of following in the footsteps of his TDE label-mate Kendrick Lamar, he has lost. He will be called Prodigal day.
As he explained in a recent interview The Fader, lost himself to drugs and alcohol. “I did everything I could to get out,” he said. “I admit I like to feel numb. All that’s not good for me. Coming out of LA without anything anchoring me hurts me. You can float here. You can get lost in this one woman. “
What was once lost is gone. Newly determined, or at least the closest approach California has to offer (he smokes weed), Rashad finds a new freedom to work. Kenny Beats, whom he calls his “rap coach.”
“There’s always something about the way he covers up his metaphors and how he brings you into the non -TDE story that has TDE depth,” Beats said. “He’s very intelligent and feels things in a really empathetic way, even though it’s car ready and especially South. His music is familiar and nostalgic, but I can’t teach anything that knows. I’m like this. ”
The beats produced two tracks The House is on fire, which is one of the few details known about the project as of this writing. Zay also shares the central metaphor behind the album. “God will not save you,” he said. “I mean, he can. Because I believe in God. But only God can’t save you. The world is on fire. Water is polluted, there’s a lot of CO2 pouring into ozone. But if you take it in a small level… if your house caught fire, would you go to that woman to get your own belongings, or would you just trust yourself and God that you might be able to come back? ”
Rashad is back in many ways with “Lay Wit Ya”, his comeback single featuring Memphis rapper Duke Deuce. The track is a windows down, volume up banger, aided by a sample of the Three 6 Mafia “Ridin‘ N ’Da Chevy”. Here, Rashad leads his flow, enjoying the unstoppable ideas of rhythm. He raps, “Big tire got motherfucker skatin’ hard / Chill pill carried me tall but can’t sleep with you hard ”,“ ya ”, and“ girl ”all rhyme. Check out “Lay Wit Ya” below.
Last year, Isaias Rashad released his first new song in four years, “Why Concerned”.
