The CW has canceled two more series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This includes Kung Fu and Supernatural spin-off, The Winchesters.
What shows did The CW cancel?
The move comes as network owner Nextstar continues to cut its planned roster of shows. Kung Fu ran for three seasons and The Winchesters only ran for one. The shows join a growing list of canceled content on The CW, including the first year of the show Walker: Freedom.
In a statement on the move, the network called the move “difficult” as they continue to “reorganize The CW,” and thanked both the cast and creative team for their work.
“As we reimagine the new CW, we’ve had to make some tough programming decisions,” the network said in a statement. “We thank our partners in Warner Bros. and the cast and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.”
At the start of the 2021-22 television season almost two years ago, The CW had a total of 18 original scripted shows. Now, that number is down to 5, and according to THR, may continue to decline. In the report, it was learned that The CW has three shows left to decide, including DC dramas Superman and Lois and Gotham Knightsand the spin-off All American: Homecoming.
THR says All American and Walker have been renewed, and The CW is considering going into the fall with just two homegrown scripted originals. The rest of the schedule consists of “unscripted series and lower-cost imports.”
