Taika Waititi Cast as “Possibly Crazy” Blackbeard in HBO Max Pirate Comedy

It could be hijinks in the high seas if the Academy Award winner Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit) The fun Blackbeard locks in the HBO Max pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death (by different).

The show is inspired by the true story of Stede Bonnet, an aristocratic layabout who gave up his privileged life to sail with the famous Edward Teach – a man whose poor mannerisms gave him a famous feather nickname. The bonnet will play by Rhys Darby, a longtime Waititi collaborator and veteran of Flying the Conchords and What We Do in the Shadows. Waititi served as executive producer on the six -episode series, and he will also direct the pilot.

The show was created by David Jenkins (People of the Earth), and his view of Edward Teach is a man with many people. “Our Blackbeard is a legend, a lover, a defender, a tactical genius, a poetic soul, and possibly insane,” he said. “Only one person can do this role, and that’s mostly Taika Waititi. We’re immeasurably happy that he decided to give the beard.”

There is no schedule for Our Flag Means Death, and it may not be easy to find a blank space in Waititi’s calendar. Now he is locked in the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Thor: Love and Thunder, and afterwards he committed helming a new Star Wars cinema, imagine also Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Netflix, revival Flash Gordon, and if that’s not enough, he’s reportedly booked an undisclosed role in James Gunn’s upcoming antihero romp The Suicide Squad.
