The Wife of the Time Traveler facing some criticism today.
Theo James and Rose Leslie star in the new HBO Max adaptation of Audrey NiffeneggerThe 2003 novel of Henry (James), a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to travel unpredictably and his wife Clare (Leslie) who is forced to adjust to life while he is away.
At some point in the story Henry travels in the past and spends time with Clare as a child, raising red flags as he prepares her to be his wife. Rehabilitation is the act of building a person’s emotional trust and connection so that the person can later be exploited, often in an exploitative and abusive way.
Critics have taken the issue to the point of the plot. the San Francisco Chronicleof Carla Meyer written in his review: “With it twilight-level trite dialogue and worldview, lack of adventures and supposed love story more like a grooming story. “
