Julz Sale, the lead singer and guitarist of the Leeds post-punk act Delta 5, died. His one-time label confirmed the news on Wednesday (September 22).
The co-founder sold Delta 5 in the late 1970s to Bethan Peters and Ros Allen. Forming the same scene as the Mekons and Gang of Four, the group stood out for their double bass and female-led lineup, with Alan Riggs and Kelvin Knight joining the group.
Even if Delta 5 only released one full album – in 1981 See Whirl—They released several more singles, collected by Kill Rock Stars in the 2006 set Singles and Sessions: 1979-1981. The group disbanded soon after See Whirlreleased. “Mind Your Own Business,” released in 1979, remained one of the band’s most popular songs in later decades, appearing on the TV series and an Apple ad about iPhone security to be released in 2021.
