The Duffer Brothers Respond to Stranger Things Criticism

The Duffer Brothers recognized that Stranger Things Mention a lot of famous ’80s movies, but they don’t think that’s why the Netflix series is so popular.

“If the show only works because of the nostalgia you feel about bringing back that particular piece of music or talking about that moment in a movie you love,” Matt Duffer told The New York Times“Then yeah, it doesn’t apply to a 10-year-old.”

Ross Duffer said they pay homage to iconic films but added that it was more important to “think how to tell it talk and say it well. “

The Duffer Brothers have been criticized for being overly original with filmmakers like Steven Spielbergwith New York Times describing early criticism of the show saying it was “a little more than ’80s karaoke.” The article mentions one of the Stranger Things‘greatest critics, slate WRITER Willa Paskinwho writes that the series “lacks an understanding of a key element of Spielberg’s work.”

The teacher of the Duffers M. Gabii Shyamalan also thought the brothers had ways to go, saying, “I think their style will continue to improve.”
