Apple is reported to launch a foldable iPhone with an 8-inch display in 2023 with technology that will enable it to be compatible with other multi-fold devices.
One fold iPhone with an 8-inch display to be released in 2023, according to a respected analyst. There used to be rumor that Apple develops a foldable iPhone, but this is the most concrete indication. It is predicted Apple will ship between 15 and 20 million in the first release.
Apple has been exploring the possibility of an iPhone move for a few years now, with a patent for a seizure of the phone’s design since 2014. Like other products or even looks, though yet, Apple’s high standards ensure that it’s not easy to release something it doesn’t feel is the best it can do. That position is probably justified by various issues reported in first generation portable phones.
As reported by MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today reiterated his earlier prediction of a 2023 release date for a foldable iPhone in a letter to investors. Kuo’s note is said to show that the device features a QHD + flexible OLED display and TPK’s silver nanowire touch solution that will support devices with multiple layers and rollable screens, as well as offer stability. Kuo also reportedly said the phone would launch “with SDC as the exclusive display provider and Samsung Foundry as the exclusive DDI foundry provider.”
The Future of Apple With Foldable iPhones & Devices
The use of a touch solution that can support devices with multiple platforms is described as giving Apple a “long period of competition” due to the potential for its use in other portable devices. Maybe it gives a hint of why – or at least potentially significant – Apple is looking at moving the device.
Kuo certainly believes it could be an important step in transforming smartphones, with MacRumors quoting him as saying that foldable phones could be a “must-have” to the extent that they drive next “super cycle replacement.” It is also suggested that, as the technology matures, it will begin to blur the lines between smartphones, tablets, and laptops. In addition to predicting 15-20 million shipments of the first iPhone transferable, Kuo was quoted as saying: “With cross-product ecosystems and hardware design advantages, Apple will be the most likely to win over the newly embedded device trend.” Kuo used to weigh in if the iPhone 13 does ditch the notch, when to wait on the next iPhone SE, and why wait for The AirPods 3 could go much taller than expected.
