The Innocents movie review and movie summary (2022)

Almost all of “The Innocents” unfolds in a large Norwegian housing complex, the kind of place where all the buildings and apartments look the same, adding a global backdrop to a unique story on arrival. age. The remarkable Rakel Lenora Flottum plays nine -year -old Ida, a man of the aforementioned age when boundaries are drawn. Ida is old enough again to find herself angry with her autistic, nonverbal sister Anna (Alva Brynsmo Ramstad). If Anna hurts her, Ida squeezes her leg, knowing her brother won’t even respond. He challenged. He was trying to get an answer. Kids at this age do that — pushing boundaries to see what happens next.

And then Ida meets a boy who has long been breaking down traditional boundaries and keeps going there. In a terrifying scene worth watching for animal lovers, a boy named Ben (Sam Ashraf |) brutal killing and cat. Ben was bullied by the locals and ignored by his single mother, leading to the kind of breakdown of moral values that can sometimes create a serial killer. But Ben isn’t your typical growing sociopath because he can do things the average troublemaker can’t. It turns out that Ida and Anna have some weird powers too, as does Aisha (Mina Yasmin Bremseth Asheim), and the four of them seem more powerful when they are with each other. It could be like “The New Mutants” or “Chronicle, ”But Vogt’s concept is not very deep in myth. It’s more than asking “what if” about young people. What if a child could take revenge on an abuser without even touching him? How far will they go? How will his evolving moral values be formed? How does power affect innocence?

Ida is the first to realize that Ben is not only special but dangerous, and there is an interesting gender dynamic in “The Innocents” that can be examined on a higher level. It could even be read as a study of when young women realized that the men around them were dangerous, and how alliance was needed to overcome the imbalance of power. Vogt is the kind of writer who never spells out his themes with clear, refined dialogue or plot twists. He trusted his audience, giving them ideas that would go around in their brains instead of feeding them simple moral messages.
