Updated January 6, 2022 by Hilary Elizabeth: Romance is clearly the heart of The Vampire Diaries as a series. Considering that there are many relationships throughout the course of the show, it’s important to identify all the ships that fans won’t forget (as well as those they want to forget).

The Best Vampire Diaries Couples

Nora and Mary Louise

If a couple stays together for more than a century, it is safe to assume that it is true love. So was the case with the vampires Nora and Mary Louise who started dating in the 1880s – at a time when romantic relationships between two women were a big taboo.

They have arguments but they care about each other. Their relationship continued until they sacrificed their lives to destroy Queen Cruz’s weapon.

Stefan and Katherine

At the beginning of their dynamic, Stefan seems to hate Katherine and wanted to have very little to do with him. She even convinced herself that she had never loved him before, that it was all a lie because of Katherine’s coercion.

But the two are still able to find their way back to each other and it seems like they can actually get back into some kind of relationship, especially when Katherine becomes human. Sadly for them, neither survived in the end. And while their relationship is clearly unhealthy, it’s at least appealing to watch.

Jeremy and Anna

Unlike Bonnie and Jeremy, these two have real chemistry between them. Anna may have lied about being a witch, but Jeremy quickly forgave her and they continued their relationship.

At first, Jeremy uses Anna to learn more about vampirism, but in the end, he falls for her just as much as he likes her. And when Anna dies and later returns temporarily as a ghost that Jeremy finds, she confesses that he still loves her.

Tyler and Caroline

Tyler and Caroline embrace The Vampire Diaries.

In the end, Caroline and Tyler’s relationship fails because each character becomes more consumed with other things and they separate. However, they are one of the most important relationships The Vampire Diaries, and Tyler and Caroline both make each other better people.

The star-crossed lovers aspect of the werewolf and vampire falling in love certainly intrigued their romance, but Caroline’s journey of helping Tyler through his transition is an interesting plotline in its own right.

Bonnie and Enzo

Bonnie and Enzo are aware of many tragedies and face some serious life problems. It was one of the things that united them.

Bonnie didn’t like Enzo very much at first, but in the end she won him over. Their relationship, unlike the others on the show, is not as full of drama and danger. But even though it didn’t have a happy ending, Bonnie and Enzo were happy as it went on, and they seemed to be truly epic in love with each other.

Klaus and Caroline

Klaus and Caroline almost kiss in The Vampire Diaries.

Unlike most other relationships The Vampire Diaries, the will-they-don’t-they dynamic between Klaus and Caroline never goes beyond that. However, that doesn’t stop this potential pairing from becoming one of the most famous ships in the series ’history.

The chemistry between them isn’t on the charts, and even if they don’t make things official, Klaroline has a lot of beautiful scenery which cannot be denied that they are one of the best romances on the show.

Stefan and Elena

Stefan and Elena dream about each other in The Vampire Diaries.

Even if Stefan and Elena aren’t together and their initial attraction can be explained by their dual doppelganger status, they’re the relationship that really launched. The Vampire Diaries.

The love they shared with each other was heartfelt, simple, and pure, and that attracted them to audiences around the world. Elena may have ended up with Damon, but many fans are still rooting for Stefan and Elena to meet again until the end.

Damon and Elena

Damon gives Elena his necklace in The Vampire Diaries.

It was a sick spot for a lot of fans of the show, but despite the way Damon treated Elena at first, they were still together. He has a lot of negative qualities, and some fans even think so Damon can’t recover, but he was trying to be a better person for Elena.

They parted during the show but came back again after everything was said and done. They started a family together when Damon became human and lived happily ever after, according to the last episode of The Vampire Diaries. And regardless of any controversy, Delena is undeniably the most popular ship in the series.

The Worst Vampire Diaries Couple

Jeremy and Vicki

Vicki Donovan and Jeremy Gilbert of The Vampire Diaries

Jeremy really liked Vicki, and although he seemed to go back to how he felt at one point, the relationship between them never worked out. That’s at least in part because Vicki is with Jeremy in secret and doesn’t want anyone to know about it, especially after all Tyler, the guy who actually seems to have an interest.

Vicki also tries to convince Jeremy to take drugs with her and be a bad influence on the youth. Eventually, he also tries to kill Jeremy and his sister Elena when he becomes a vampire.

Damon and Andie

Damon’s brief connection to Andie Star is just a modified version of his so-called “relationship” with Caroline. Sure, Andie said she would have been with Damon even if she hadn’t been forced, but she didn’t stop maneuvering and restraining him though.

Damon seems to see Andie as a useful tool and a way to kill time, and even if Andie’s untimely death suggests that perhaps his feelings are deeper, their relationship is serious.

Bonnie and Jeremy

Bonnie may have found her perfect partner with Enzo, but she’s not her first boyfriend, not for long. They had been dating Jeremy for some time. But their relationship had many issues, starting with a lack of chemistry and ending with the fact that Jeremy was still in love with Anna for a crucial time when they were together.

They just get together to break up later (usually because one of them has temporarily died) and do this cycle multiple times before they stop things for good. Their relationship has a lot of drama, but it’s never interesting.

Tyler and Vicki

Jeremy fights Tyler and Vicky.

Obviously The Vampire Diaries Wants to establish that Tyler is the absolute worst outside the gate, because he was essentially on the verge of sexually assaulting Vicki before Jeremy intervened. And while Tyler is more beautiful than Vicki in subsequent episodes, that’s not to say.

He still treated her as a hook-up and acted embarrassed to be with him, and their whole connection was like an obstacle that Jeremy and Vicki had to overcome to start their own relationship.

Damon and Caroline

Early in the first season, Damon and Caroline had a bad relationship. Caroline is attracted to Damon, but she only uses him as a walking blood bank, errand girl, and as a way to get closer to Elena.

He drank Caroline’s blood against his will, insulted her, and intimidated her. And when he finally gets mad at her, he tries to kill her – a plan Stefan luckily stalls. Even if they seem to have developed a strange style of frenemy relationship later on, there is no denying that they are one of the worst couples on the show.

Katherine and Damon

Katherine seems to have real feelings for Stefan and Damon, and Damon has clearly been in love with Katherine over the years, but their relationship is a bit toxic. Katherine doesn’t love Damon very much and she prefers Stefan. But he leads Damon, let him believe he’s been imprisoned for over a century, and he doesn’t even bother to contact him even though he’s free the whole time.

Despite all this, Damon is still willing to forgive her once he comes back but Katherine crushes him by saying that she has never loved him before.

Caroline and Alaric

Alaric and Caroline behind the building of The Vampire Diaries

Considering the fact that Caroline is younger than Alaric and she was formerly his high school teacher, this relationship seemed like a bad idea from the start.

It is based on fact Confusingly Caroline gave birth of Jo and Alaric’s children thanks to a magical baby swap. However, even if they get married at some point, their relationship never feels like a real romance, and it’s more scary than enticing.
