AMC has officially announced that the highly anticipated The Walking Dead spin-off Rick and Michonne It is now set to debut in 2024. The network has also confirmed that they are currently planning to start production on it this year.
The Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira-led drama was originally slated to premiere this year along with two other spin-offs. The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, all of which centered on the original series’ top survivors. Besides Rick and Michonnethe target released for Dead City and Daryl Dixon has also been revealed, with the Jeffrey Dean Morgan-led series coming in June, and will be followed by the premiere of the Norman Reedus show later this year.
Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are set to reprise their fan favorite roles in the future Rick and Michonne consecutively. It will be written and produced by Scott Gimple, who will also serve as showrunner. Gurira will also be credited as co-creator and co-writer for the six-episode drama.
“This series presents an epic love story of two characters transformed in a changed world,” reads the synopsis. “Separated by distance. By irresistible power. By the ghosts of who they are. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And finally, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they are in a place and situation unlike anything they’ve ever known?
Based on the comic series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard of the same name, The Walking Dead is executive produced by Kirkman, Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, Joseph Incaprera, Gale Anne Hurd, Denise Huth, and Angela Kang.
