Thierry Mugler, the French fashion designer behind the Mugler fashion line, died on Sunday. His death was confirmed by his Instagram page and of the Mugler brand. He is 73 years old.

Loved and influenced by the fashion world, Mugler’s designs are worn by some of music’s biggest stars. David Bowie wore a Mugler dress Saturday Night Live in 1979. Mugler’s designs were worn by stars such as Diana Ross, Madonna, George Michael, and many more.

After his retirement from the Mugler brand in 2003, his archives provide some of the most beautiful looks at contemporary pop music. Lady Gaga wore a vintage Mugler outfit in the 2010 “Telephone” video, and at the 2011 Grammys, came out in an egg wearing a Mugler dress. Cardi B, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Katy Perry have all worn dresses from the Mugler archive in recent years. In 2009, Mugler served as artistic director for Beyoncé’s “I Am…” world tour; he made the costumes and played a major role in the overall production of the show.
