Tim Roth is set to return to the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe later this year, reprising his role as Emil Blonsky/Abomination in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Speaking to ComingSoon about it, Roth talked about changes to the creature Abomination and more.
“The ‘new’ look … it’s really funny, because when I saw it, I was like, ‘oh,’ because it’s closer to the actual comic books,” Roth said. when asked how he felt about seeing Marvel Studios’ new version of Abomination Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. “Closer to what he was. At first he was underwater. He can breathe underwater, has gills. All things are [a] very interesting mix of monster and man. I thought that was interesting. That was something we didn’t put in the first movie. So the change is… I don’t know if it’s changed from the recent film [Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings] to the He-Hulk, it may even have evolved a bit from there. I’m not sure. I’m not sure what they do. They are still working on it.”
Roth also spoke about the recent wave of support he received after appearing Shang-Chisaying that he was “flattered” by the outpouring of love from fans after the Abomination appeared briefly in a fight scene against none other than Benedict Wong’s Wong.
“I’m very flattered,” Roth said. “I think it’s really nice, you know? When they asked me if I would consider coming back and playing that role, I said, ‘Yes!’ I do this for my children. This is why I did it in the first place, and [it’s] still the same. I told them about it and they said, ‘Oh, you did it.’ Okay, I did it. That happens often. It happened in Resurrection. My son read the script and said, ‘You did it.’ It’s okay. And I have nothing to say about it. I am very happy. I took his advice.”
Roth also praised Tatiana Maslany, who stars in the series as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, as well as Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner, in the upcoming series, and noted that he saw the recently released San Diego Comic-Con trailer. and loved it.
“I don’t usually watch things, but I watched the trailer, because my kids said to me, ‘You have to watch this trailer. This is a great trailer.’ So I watched the Marvel trailer,” Roth said. “I love the woman who fronted it. He is amazing. Mark Ruffalo can laugh too. So we had a lot of fun.”
