That was always obvious Ghostwire: Tokyo going to the Xbox platform after that coming out on PlayStation 5 and PC in March 2022, given that its developer is owned by Xbox. And now, Tango Gameworks has confirmed as much, as the fantastical shooter is releasing on Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass on April 12. However, it’s also launching with a giant update that will add a tons of new features on all platforms.
The biggest part of this patch, called the Spider’s Thread update, is the roguelite mode, which is what gives the update its name. Spider’s Thread is a new mode in the main menu that tasks players with conquering a floor-to-floor gauntlet. Each gauntlet contains 30 stages selected from a pool of 130 hand-crafted. Progressing and completing challenges unlocks upgrades, a feature where players will continue to die. However, death means that players must start from the first floor.
The update also adds new areas to the main campaign – including a haunted middle school – and more narrative pieces. Some cutscenes have more interaction between Akito and KK and provide more “plot insight.” The story was widely panned, so it’s possible it was a reaction to the criticism. And for those who don’t want to be scared to steal through a school full of ghosts, there is also a new option “Reduce Horror Effects” that replaces some of the “psychic effects” of the stickers “Shiibuya Hachi “. But it’s not clear what exactly the stickers are.
Combat still sees its share of additions. There is a new quick dodge, perfect block counter attack, “aerial ability,” the ability to add a base melee attack with an elemental effect, and new talismans that can fill the player’s Ether or allow them to which can reach high places through a well-placed whirlwind. . It comes with a few more enemy types, as seen in the photo above, such as Quick Pay, “high-flying” Sanguine Dancer, and the subtle Silent Gaze, which may not be visible. Tango doesn’t show it in action nor does it provide more than brief descriptors.
Ghostwire: TokyoPhoto Mode gets more features, too. There are new stamps and character models that players can use to customize their photos. Models are unlocked by spending Meika, the game’s currency, in various capsule machines around Tokyo.
More to come in this update, but Tango says these features “must be kept under wraps” for now because good ghost stories have a bit of mystery to them.
