Viola Davis Achieves EGOT With Best Audio Book Win at 2023 Grammys

With his victory today at 2023 Grammys, Viola Davis achieved EGOT status. The Grammy-awarded actress for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording follows her Tony win in 2001 (King Hedley II) and 2010 (Fences), his 2015 Emmy (How to Avoid Murder), and Oscar in 2017 (Fences). For his reading of his memoirs Finding Me, Davis won the Grammy today against Questlove, Mel Brooks, Jamie Foxx, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Read his full acceptance speech below.

Davis is the 18th person to achieve the EGOT. Jennifer Hudson earned the honor last year with a Tony Award for A Strange Loop. His fellow EGOT winners include John LegendAndrew Lloyd Webber, Richard Rodgers, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and Rita Moreno.

All of Davis’ fellow nominees are former Grammy winners. Mel Brooks completed his EGOT in 2001. Lin-Manuel Miranda is one Oscar away from achieving the honor, while Questlove and Jamie Foxx have yet to win Emmys or Tonys.
