With his most experimental work yet, Buffalo, New York producer Volume Unit released his debut EP,Trickson Ujuu’s Solace Family Records.
Tricks is the perfect showcase of Volume Unit’s voice, giving fans a glimpse of the mind-blowing madness that his music brings to the table. Best described as enigmatic and wobbly with shades of G Jones and Eprom scattered throughout, Volume Unit does an excellent job of curating a very colorful soundscape within its tracks .
The titular “Delusions” does an excellent job of that, creating a dark ambiance with samples swirling around its chaotic drop. “The Cell” and “Tunnel Vision” stay in the same lane, retaining Volume Unit’s ethereal approach while being heavier than the intro track. “Meta” serves as the final song on the EP and takes a more experimental route than the previous three tracks.
Having received support from Excision early in his career, Volume Unit has a strong trajectory to grow within bass music. Watch him as he begins to carve his own path.
