We Millers’ Emma Roberts to Star in Comedy Movie

American Horror Story alum Emma Roberts has signed on for the lead role in the upcoming comedy titled Hot Riot.

Roberts is no stranger to the comedy genre, having previously starred in 2009’s Hotel for Dogs and 2013’s We’re the Millers, as well as romantic comedies such as Valentine’s Day, Holidate, and Maybe I Did. He is the next to be seen in her wonders Sony debut Madame Web movie, and the latest season of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology AHS: Delicate.

“Hot Mess is a sharp, engaging script that strikes me as a fresh story of a woman finding her place in a world dominated by social media and increasingly expected,” the director said. Katie Locke O’Brien said in a statement (via The deadline). “I’m so excited to bring it to life with Emma as the perfect Laurel.”

What’s the Hot Mess About?

Hot Mess marks the feature-length directorial debut of Katie Locke O’Brien, with Gabrielle D’ Amico serving as its writer. Roberts is set to play a woman who – after embarrassing herself on TV – moves into her parents’ basement.

“It follows Laurel Mack (Roberts) who, after blowing up in the worst way possible on a popular American dating show, has to take the ultimate walk of shame…back to her hometown, ” reads the synopsis. “Failure to win love on the show, he finds himself living in his quirky parents’ basement, without any friends, constantly bumping into the pathetic ex who is adored by the whole town , while experiencing the constant ridicule of all who witness his public breakdown. He embarks on a hilarious and heartfelt journey to discover self-love and, with that, true connections with others.

The film will be produced by Debbie Liebling, Maggie Malina and Laura Lewis, in association with David Garrett’s Mister Smith Entertainment. Production is expected to begin in early 2024.
