Right now Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the end of, many fans think about his place in the extended and often complicated Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. The third and probably the last James Gunn-Directed trilogy provides a satisfying conclusion to several storylines involving the most dysfunctional band of superheroes in the galaxy. However, this leaves some lingering questions as to when the Guardians’ latest adventures will go down.
Where Does Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Place in the MCU Timeline?
Guardians of the Galaxy 3’s place in the MCU timeline could be in 2025 or 2026. The movie itself doesn’t feature any time-specific references other than a few vague hints. For example, fans have heard Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) grandfather is 90 years old. However, guessing the movie’s place in the MCU is possible.
The official MCU timeline sees The Guardian of the Galaxy Holiday Special as the final entry on Disney Plus, and Vol. 3 has several references to it, thus placing the movie after the kidnapping of Kevin Bacon at the hands of Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista). But, again, a lot depends on whether the events of the Holiday Special fall in late 2024 or 2025. Marvel Studios will release a book later this year that will likely have the answers fans have been looking for for the franchise’s growing lore.
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmation from Marvel Studios on Vol. 3 place in the MCU timeline. Director Gunn’s words contradicted the producers’ intention to set Thor: Love and Thunder in 2025 because he doesn’t believe in the blond superhero described by Chris Hemsworth spent two years with the Guardians after the Avengers managed to change the effects of Snap in the MCU in 2023. However, Gunn stated that it felt like there were a couple of years between Iron Man sacrifice and what happened in Vol. 3.
