Shaver, a respected presence in country music, died in October of 2020 at the age of 81. He is respected for his singing style, getting a big break when Waylon Jennings recorded many of Shaver’s songs for 1973 Honky Tonk Heroes. In the following years, Shaver became a cult-hit number despite not having a chart-topper under his own name, celebrated by the likes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Kris Kristofferson. His last album was in 2014 Long in the Tooth.
