Zachary Levi Reveals ‘Failed’ Shazam! 2 Cameo, James Gunn Defended

Shazam! Wrath of the Gods Star Zachary Levi sheds some light on the turmoil behind the Shazam! mid-credits scene in the sequel. In his Instagram profile, Levi responded to the new reports involving Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson’s alleged interference Shazam! Wrath of the Gods mid-credits scene.

Although Levi didn’t name Johnson himself, he said the scene was actually meant to feature Hawkman and Cyclone — two characters who are part of the Justice Society of America in Black Adam. The actor then explained that attempts to include these characters “failed,” which led to the quick inclusion of PeacemakerEmilia Harcourt (played by Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (played by Steve Agee) in the places of JSA members. This is also against claimed on social media that Gunn hired Hollandwho is his wife, in many DC projects.

“In this movie, people are slagging James Gunn because Jennifer Holland, his wife — who’s an actress who’s on a show, who Peacemaker and on Suicide Squad but connected to the Jusice Society … we use Jennifer and Steve [Agee] in that mid-credits scene of Shazam,” Levi said during an Instagram Live video. “That wasn’t the original intention. The original intention was that Hawkman and Cyclone were there inviting me [into the Justice Society]. Walter Hamada, Peter Safran, David Sandberg … we had an awesome scene that would have tied me to the JSA with Hawkman and Storm and we failed.”

Shazam! Wrath of the Gods directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) from a scenario written by Shazam! scribe Henry Gayden. It was produced by Peter Safran. The film is now in theaters.
