The historical drama, in which Ray portrayed Cardinal Cesereani, was the actor’s last film role before his death.

“I realize the enormous weight of the responsibility entrusted to me with our work together on what will indeed be your last feature film,” Péter wrote in a message to The deadline. “I will do my best to honor it. I have in front of me an image of you on the set analyzing the character of Cesareani with love. You love to play him and we are even starting to plan a prequel movie about the Cardinal.”

Péter further reflected on Ray’s ability to capture everyone’s attention—on and off set—with his magnetic personality.
