As far as his acting goes, actor and actress Ice Cube is best known for his iconic role Friday comedy film series. According to him, he wants to get the rights to the film franchise but he is not looking at a lawsuit to do so.
Ice Cube – who co-wrote the films along with starring in them – spoke TMZ Hip Hop recently about his history of trying to get the rights to Friday franchise. The actor was asked about the possibility of acquiring the rights or making a spin-off film, to which Cube laughed and said that not only Warner Bros. the characters, which makes things more difficult.
“You must use the same [intellectual property],” said Cube. “Can’t call it Saturday without using Craig and Day-Day. So it’s exactly the same. However, when asked if he would sue Warner Bros. to try and get the rights to the film, Ice Cube is firm in his answer that he is not, saying “No, I will not sue anyone.”
Cube’s history of trying to get the rights to Friday The franchise is a long one, and has lasted for many years now. During a taping orf Drink Champs at the Rock The Bells festival this past October, Cube mentioned that he actually presented two scripts to Warner Bros. for a potential new film, but both were rejected.
“I tried to get it from Warner Brothers, they don’t believe in culture, man,” Cube said (via HipHopDX). “I have two scripts. I wrote one; this is s—. They were like, ‘Yo, we don’t want Craig and Day-Day to go to jail, ’cause Craig and Day-Day went to jail for selling weed before it was legal!
the Friday franchise debuted in 1995 with Friday, starring Ice Cube alongside Chris Tucker, Nia Long, Tiny “Zeus” Lister Jr., Regina King, and more. The film turned out to be a sleeper hit after its release, earning an amazing amount at the box office and gaining a huge cult following thanks to the internet and pop culture at large. The film series has seen two sequels since, along with the 2000’s Next Friday and 2002 Friday After Next released in the years since the first film.
