Legacy Casting & Preproduction Update

Superman: Legacy Director James Gunn gave fans an update on DC Universe casting and preproduction of the film.

on PoisonsGunn was asked if he could provide any Superman: Legacy updates involving the DC Studios film production. The director responded positively, saying the process was “swimming” before listing the steps already underway.

“It's swimming,” Gunn said. “The sets are built, the costumes are finished, the actors are studying the roles, prosthetics and VFX models are made, the flights are booked. Here we go.”

In a follow-up responseasked the filmmaker how much of the cast was locked. Through some answers, it was revealed that Gunn has locked in more than 90% of the cast, but not 100% on New Year's Day 2024.

The titular role in Superman: Legacy is played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will play The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They were joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and others. The film is scheduled to release on July 11, 2025.

What are the other projects in the DCU's Chapter One?

The first phase of the DC Universe, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature many different movies and television shows. Some of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and many TV shows.
