Jenna Ortega rose to superstardom for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams on the hit Netflix show Wednesday and recently revealed that in order to make things right, he doesn’t always follow the show’s script.
During the recent period of “Armchair Expert” Podcast.Ortega revealed that when he first signed the show, the scripts he received were very different from what he believed to be the show.
“When I read the whole series, I realized, ‘Oh, this is for a younger audience,'” Ortega said (via different). “When I first signed the show, I didn’t have all the scripts. I thought it would be much darker. No… I don’t know what the tone is, or what the score is going to sound like.”
Ortega went on to say that he had to put his foot down several times while on set for the series and that there were many times that the things he was written to do “didn’t make sense to his character.” Ortega noted that there were times when he “became almost unprofessional” in a way.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot in a set the way I should have WednesdayOrtega said. “Everything Wednesday did, everything I had to play, made no sense to her character. She’s in a love triangle? It makes no sense. There’s a line about a dress she’s going to wear for a school dance and she said, ‘Oh my god I love it. And, I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ I had to go, ‘No.’ There were times on that set where I became almost unprofessional in a sense where I started changing lines. The script supervisor thought I was going to do something and then I had to sit down with the writers, and they were like, ‘Wait, what happened in the scene?’ And I have to go and explain why I can’t go do certain things.
As the filming continued, according to Ortega, he became more “protective” of the character, because he did not want to play a character that was always morbid, because it would bore the audience.
“I grew up, he was more protective,” Ortega said. “You can’t direct a story without an emotional arc because then it’s boring and nobody likes you. When you’re small and say really mean, hurtful things, it’s funny and endearing. But then you become a teenager and it’s bad and you know it. There is little excuse. “
To Ortega’s credit, the moves worked, apparently Wednesday became a smash hit for many because of his portrayal of the character. Currently, the second season of the series is in production, although a definite release date has not yet been set.
